Heads Up

Heads Up brings the rhythmic side of Warpaint's music further forward. Bass and drums give the songs a strong sense of movement, while the guitars and overlapping voices keep the arrangements loose enough for smaller details to emerge.

“New Song” offers a particularly direct entrance, turning the band's interplay towards an inviting pop shape. Elsewhere, the grooves stretch out and the voices move around one another with less urgency. The record keeps the atmosphere associated with Warpaint's earlier work while making room for a lighter, more openly danceable kind of energy.
