Solange builds A Seat at the Table from songs and spoken passages that address Black identity, family memory and the work of protecting a private self. The arrangements are often restrained, leaving the voice and small rhythmic details to carry the feeling instead of forcing every moment towards a large chorus.

“Cranes in the Sky” turns avoidance into a quietly persistent melody. “Don't Touch My Hair,” with Sampha, makes a boundary audible without surrendering its calm. The interludes connect those individual songs to a wider conversation.
