The Art Of Survival

Bush made The Art of Survival with producers Erik Ron and Tyler Bates, continuing the heavier sound of The Kingdom. Gavin Rossdale's voice sits above dense guitars and drums, with “More Than Machines” introducing a record concerned with people living amid larger pressures.

“Heavy Is the Ocean” opens the album, and the arrangements repeatedly return to weight and repetition. That emphasis gives the songs a common setting even as Rossdale changes his delivery, moving between quieter phrases and choruses designed for the full band.
