Pump
Aerosmith
By Maeve C.
Pump arrived on 12 September 1989, with Bruce Fairbairn producing Aerosmith again after Permanent Vacation. ‘Love In An Elevator’, ‘Janie’s Got A Gun’, ‘The Other Side’ and ‘What It Takes’ made it a record with an unusually long run of familiar songs.
The sequence has more range than its loudest choruses suggest. The opening rush of ‘Young Lust’ eventually gives way to the slower, bruised finish of ‘What It Takes’. Playing the album through restores the space between the singles.
