The Dead Weather bring Alison Mosshart, Jack White, Dean Fertita and Jack Lawrence back together for a third album of heavy, blues-rooted rock. White's drumming and Mosshart's voice give the songs an unstable push and pull, while guitar and keyboards fill the spaces around them.

“I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)” sets out that pressure immediately. “Cop and Go” keeps the rhythmic attack close, while the closing “Impossible Winner” opens into a different mood. That last turn gives the album a useful release after so much tightly wound playing.
