Speakerboxxx / The Love Below

OutKast placed two distinct records inside one package for Speakerboxxx / The Love Below. Big Boi's disc stays close to Southern rap and funk, while André 3000 works further into singing, jazz and electronic pop. Their separation becomes the organising idea of an unusually expansive double album.

“The Way You Move” and “Hey Ya!” made both approaches widely familiar. Beyond those singles, the different pacing and textures matter just as much: each disc lets one member follow an idea long enough for its own character to emerge.
