The Universal Want

‘Carousels’ looks back to childhood holidays and the first thrill of hearing music played loudly at a fairground. Andy Williams described those memories in the band’s account of The Universal Want.

Doves’ fifth studio album followed an eleven-year gap between albums. Released on 11 September 2020, it brought ‘Carousels’, ‘Prisoners’ and ‘Broken Eyes’ into the same ten-track record. Jimi Goodwin, Jez Williams and Andy Williams had been working together again before its arrival.
