Floating Into The Night

Julee Cruise’s debut was released on 12 September 1989, before Twin Peaks reached television. Angelo Badalamenti composed the music and David Lynch wrote the lyrics; ‘Falling’ would become closely associated with the series.

The album has a life beyond that association. Cruise’s restrained singing leaves room around each phrase, while the arrangements move slowly enough for small changes to register. ‘Mysteries Of Love’ and ‘The Nightingale’ belong to the same nocturnal world without simply repeating its best-known melody.
