Róisín Machine

Róisín Murphy

By Maeve C.

Róisín Murphy built Róisín Machine with producer Richard Barratt, also known as DJ Parrot. The album draws its songs into a continuous dance-floor sequence, giving earlier tracks such as “Simulation” a place beside “Murphy's Law” and “Something More.”

Long grooves and gradual transitions matter as much as individual choruses. Murphy's voice can sound intimate or theatrical without breaking that flow, moving through the arrangements as the bass and percussion keep the record in motion. It rewards listening from beginning to end.
