Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble added keyboard player Reese Wynans for Soul to Soul, giving the arrangements another voice alongside guitar, bass and drums. His presence broadens the band's sound without removing the roughness and rhythmic drive that made their earlier records distinctive.

“Look at Little Sister” keeps its focus on the groove, while “Ain't Gone 'n' Give Up on Love” lets Vaughan stretch his phrasing more slowly. Those different tempos reveal how closely his guitar lines follow the shape and emphasis of a vocal performance.
