Zenyatta Mondatta
The Police
By Maeve C.
The Police recorded Zenyatta Mondatta as a trio, with Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland giving the songs a tightly coordinated sound. “Don’t Stand So Close to Me” opens the album, bringing a narrative lyric into a setting shaped by rhythm as much as guitar.
“De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da” offers a more direct chorus, while instrumental pieces give the sequence another pace. Across those changes, the band leaves space between its parts, allowing bass, drums and guitar to remain distinct even when the songs move quickly.
