Jaime takes Brittany Howard outside Alabama Shakes while retaining the force and flexibility of her voice. Named for her late sister, the album moves through fractured grooves, soul harmonies and quieter passages without settling on a single backing style.

“History Repeats” opens with restless repetition, while “Stay High” finds a warmer, more relaxed pocket. Howard uses those different settings to bring the words close, rather than making every song a demonstration of vocal power.
