Charlie
Charlie Puth
By Maeve C.
Charlie Puth developed parts of CHARLIE in public, sharing clips of his production process before the album arrived. That working method suits songs built from small rhythmic discoveries, bright keyboard sounds and tightly stacked vocals, with personal breakups providing much of the subject matter.
“Light Switch” turns an everyday sound into a hook, and “Left and Right” brings in Jung Kook for a duet. “Tears on My Piano” makes its keyboard melody part of the song's central idea. The arrangements are polished, but their individual construction remains easy to hear.
