The Nothing

Korn

By Maeve C.

The Nothing places grief at the centre of Korn's familiar combination of low guitar riffs, forceful rhythms and Jonathan Davis's unsettled voice. The opening “The End Begins” makes that emotional setting clear before “Cold” brings the full band into focus.

“You'll Never Find Me” and “Can You Hear Me” give the album recognisable hooks without making its subject feel comfortable. Davis moves between singing and harsher delivery throughout, and the arrangements leave those changes exposed. The closing “Surrender to Failure” brings the record back to a direct, personal statement.
