Death Magnetic was released on 12 September 2008. Rick Rubin produced Metallica for the first time, and the record brought long arrangements, guitar solos and an instrumental back into the foreground.
‘The Day That Never Comes’ takes its time before accelerating, while ‘All Nightmare Long’ pushes harder from the outset. The nearly ten-minute ‘Suicide & Redemption’ leaves the voices out altogether. These are songs that ask for a full side’s attention rather than a quick sample.
