The Seeds Of Love

Tears for Fears moved towards a more expansive, musician-led sound on The Seeds of Love. Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith surrounded their pop writing with piano, detailed rhythm parts and arrangements that leave room for soul and jazz influences. The scale is larger, but the voices remain clear at its centre.

Oleta Adams gives “Woman in Chains” and “Badman's Song” a powerful additional presence. The title single brings a different, psychedelic brightness. Those contrasts make the record's ambition audible in the songs themselves rather than only in its elaborate production.
