Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington's first DARKSIDE album pairs electronic production with a guitarist's sense of phrasing. Psychic gives both musicians time to establish a pattern and then alter it, using quiet space, bass and small changes in texture as structural elements.

The long opening “Golden Arrow” moves gradually toward its rhythm, while “Paper Trails” places a low vocal against a blues-like guitar figure. The music can suggest a live jam even when its details are carefully shaped. Its patient pacing makes the eventual arrival of a beat feel consequential.
